How to Create a Hotspot on a Windows 11 Laptop

Step 1: Press the button Win+i simultaneously on your keyboard to open Settings app.

Step 2: On the Settings page, click Network & internet on the left side of the panel.

Step 3: Now, go to the right side of the page, scroll down and turn it on Mobile hotspot.

This will ensure that when no device is connected to your PC, the mobile hotspot is disabled by default.

Step 4: If you are using Mobile hotspot for the first time, make sure to name your Hotspot and add a password. This will keep your connection secure from unauthorized access. For this, scroll down to the bottom and under the section Propertiesclick Edit.

Step 5: In Edit network infoopen field Network name and add the name you want, which is easy to remember. Then, in the field Network passwords, add a password of at least 8 characters. Press Save to save changes.

How to Create a Hotspot on a Windows 11 Laptop via Command Prompt

You can also create a hotspot on Windows 11 laptop manually, i.e. via Command Prompt. Here are the steps that you have to do:

Step 1: Press the button Win+R simultaneously on your keyboard to open a dialog box Run.

Step 2: In the Run dialog box, type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys together on your keyboard to launch an elevated Command Prompt window.

Step 3: After that type the below command and press Enter key:

netsh wlan show drivers

This will help you to know if your laptop supports virtual hotspot or not.

Step 4: Close Command Prompt and reopen it again following Step 1 and Step 2 with administrative rights.

Now, type the below command in Command Prompt:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid= key=

SSID is the name of your network. Give whatever name you want after the = . sign

Key are passwords. enter your password here after the = . sign

Step 4: Now, copy and paste the command below and press Enter to start the hosted network that you created above, with the SSID as TechEmpty :

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

If a message appears saying “the hosted network mode has been set to allow” . This means that the above command was executed successfully.

Step 5: Now, before you proceed to share your laptop internet with other devices, here you can see the virtual hotspot properties by running the below command and press Enter:

netsh wlan show hostednetwork

This command will pull all the information on the created host network.

Step 6: Now, To share Wi-Fi with other devices, continue with the steps below. Press the shortcut key Win+R to open the Run dialog.

Step 7: Then type ncpa.cpl and press OK to open the window Network Connection.

Step 8: In the Network Connections window, right click on active internet connection and select Properties.

Step 9: Now, in the Properties dialog box, go to the . tab Sharing and check the box next to Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s network connection. Then select Home networking connections from the drop-down. Press OK to save changes and exit.
