How to Write Newspaper Columns in Google Docs

If you are creating a brochure in Google Docs or maybe creating an article for a newspaper/newspaper, you have to format the document in columns. Whether you want to create two columns or three columns in Google Docs, both can be done.

You can also adjust the column size as per your wish and even separate them with a line for clarity. If you want to create columns in Google Docs, in this article, I will show you how to add columns in Google Docs and then customize them.

How to Write Newspaper Columns in Google Docs

You don’t need any third party tools to create newspaper column posts in Google Docs, all can be done directly inside Google Docs. Just follow the instructions below to create a column:

Highlight/block all the posts that you want to turn into columns. Formatting changes will not affect unhighlighted/blocked text.

Now click on the “Format” menu at the top and hover your mouse cursor over the “Columns” option. You will see an option to select two or three columns.

Once you select a column number, the highlighted text will be divided among those columns. If there is a title, it will be listed at the beginning of the first column.

If you want to customize it further, click the “More options” button in the same “Columns” option.

Here you will find the option to increase or decrease the space between each column. This number is 0.5 inches by default, you can change it as you like by typing the required space in inches. There is also an option to add a line between each column to separate them.

Make the column single again

If you are interested in switching back to single column then that is also easy to do. Of course, you can always hit the Undo button if you just made a column change, but otherwise you can reverse the above process.

Highlight/block the column you want to convert back and open the same “Columns” option inside the “Format” menu. Here select one column this time and everything will be reset, including any adjustments you may have made.
